Wednesday's Top Tip: This week, I shared a valuable resource on some ways to change the perception on talent acquisition from the first series of the podcast we did.
What I Learned This Week: In the competitive job market, personal branding is crucial. Companies can lay you off at a moment's notice, so being visible and known in the market is essential. I believe the future lies in highly engaged communities where people push and challenge each other, sharing stories of success and failure for collective learning.
Opinion Piece: Should You Include Hobbies on Your CV?
This week on LinkedIn, I was triggered by a debate on whether hobbies should be included on CVs. Here's the original post and my take on it:
Original Poster: "Should you include hobbies on your CV? Probably not, due to unconscious bias. Unless your hobbies are directly related to the job, it's best to leave them out."
My Reply: I'm biting on this 🎣. Including a hobby can humanize a CV and highlight personality and cultural fit, which are essential in many jobs. Hobbies like martial arts and long-distance running demonstrate discipline, resilience, and determination. From a DEI perspective, hobbies can bring diverse skills and views, fostering an inclusive workplace. They also serve as great conversation starters, revealing passions and personalities beyond professional experiences. While biases can have negative outcomes, they can also be intuitive and lead to positive results. Context is key; it depends on the job and company.
I’m interested what do you think about this? Am I too old school or is there still a place for
